Chairs have changed remarkably little. Humans have been sitting in chairs for centuries.

Materials have improved. Styles have changed. We've added wheels, cushions, armrests, and reclining backs.

But one thing has stayed almost exactly the same: Our knees remain bent at roughly 90 degrees for hours and hours at a time.

Yet our lives have changed dramatically.

Our ancestors weren't sitting for eight hours a day. Today many Americans spend 6–10 hours sitting between:

  • work

  • commuting

  • meals

  • television

  • travel

Our bodies simply weren't built for that much uninterrupted sitting.

Your knees carry you everywhere.

They're also the largest joint in your body. They absorb thousands of pounds of force every day while walking, climbing stairs, exercising, and simply moving through life.

Yet when we finally sit down...We give them almost no support.

Maybe the chair isn't the problem. Maybe it's what's missing from it.

Imagine if office chairs had built-in knee support the same way they now have lumbar support.

They don't. That's why portable knee support exists - to fill the gap chairs never solved.
